I recently took a break from social media, and it was one of the greatest things I’ve ever done! I had no idea how many times—out of boredom or procrastination—I’d pick up my phone and automatically go to Instagram. When I decided to delete the app off of my phone, I found myself still opening my phone and clicking where the app used to be, just out of habit. I decided to take a break from social media when I realized how unsatisfied I had become with my own life, like what I was doing wasn’t worth posting about. Once I stopped getting on Instagram 70 times a day (this seems like an exaggeration, but it’s not), I was able to see the bigger picture. Just because your life isn’t extravagant or glamorous doesn’t make it worth any less. I know that what I’m doing right now is important and worthwhile. Serving our parents is something we are all called to do, and I am honoring that. It may not be glamorous or exciting, but it means something. I will look back on this time with my parents, and I will be thankful I got to spend so much time with them as an adult. As we are getting older, our parents are getting older, too. You always think you have more time with them, but you never know when it’s time for them to leave this earth. There are definitely more important things to life than Instagram!
